02/12/2012 Grade 7 CHARACTER SKETCH OF ROGER FROM THANK YOU MA'M by Langston Hughes ------------------------------------- Roger was a poor teenager who lived alone in the streets. He wished to buy a pair of Blue suede shoes but had no money to buy one. He's not very strong and he's at that very selfish stage where he wants what he wants. So he intended on stealing a purse of an elderly lady. During his attempt to do so, he fell to the ground and was forced to succumb to Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones demands. So instead of stealing he stumbled upon a very strong and passionate women, Luella Bates Washington Jones who showed him how it felt to be trusted and loved. Now Roger feeling ashamed and scared. He was happy to feel the motherly care and affection she showed to him when she says “Your face is dirty. I got a great mind to wash your face for you” with that being said she dragged him all the way back to her home. When they arrived at her home, she finally proceeded to let Roger go and stated that he should go wash his face, with Rogers new found freedom he could run being that the door is right next to him, but instead decides to walk to the sink. However, he wanted to avoid temptation and also wanted to earn her trust. At her apartment Roger learns civility. She didn't make him bored by long lectures about right or wrong but just let him feel like home.He was moved by the affection she showed.Further the ten dollars she gave him too made him rethink about his mistake. He is grateful for the woman’s kindness and cannot express his appreciation enough. He was a juvenile criminal but was more ready to accept kindness and good manner s. He wasn't a bad boy but he was a neglected child. He didn't want to own a gun like a real criminal. On the other hand, what he wants is sort of harmless, and having those blue suede shoes will not change his life dramatically. He just wanted them to show off. He will still be in a home where there is no one there to look after him and feed him and correct him and tend to him. Roger learns a powerful and positive lesson in life and he evolves or changes from a young thief into a thoughtful young man.

Linear Motion
If a moving body changes its position with time along a straight line, then it is said that the body is in linear motion. You can easily understand the linear motion of objects by considering the following examples.
• Motion of an ant along the edges of a rectangular table
• Motion of a car along a straight road
• Motion of a rolling ball over an inclined plane
Distance and displacement
Distance is defined as the ground covered by a moving object during its motion. Its SI unit is metre (m). It has only magnitude but no direction. Distance can never be negative. The minimum value of distance is zero.
Displacement is defined as how far an object has moved relative to the starting point. Its SI unit is metre (m). It has both magnitude and direction. Displacement can be positive, negative, or zero.
The distinction between these two quantities becomes evident by considering the following situation.
